  2. │   |This is probably as good a time as any to put in a plug for         |   │
  3. │ o |user support of BBS's in general.  The average user tends to        | o │
  4. │   |think of a local BBS as a "free" service,  and does not             |   │
  5. │   |good,  full service BBS.                                            |   │
  6. │ o |                                                                    | o │
  7. │   |While there will always be those who are willing to operate         |   │
  8. │   |larger,  full-service BBS with lots of file storage,  mail,         |   │
  9. │ o |game doors,  etc., are finding that it is just too expensive        | o │
  10. │   |to keep up unless regular users contribute direct financial         |   │
  11. │   |                                                                    |   │
  12. │ o |In today's economy,  few Sysops are able to personally absor        | o │
  13. │   |the expense of running a good BBS without help from users.          |   │
  14. │   |running the BBS is $150 monthly,  exclusive of maintenance or       |   │
  15. │ o |new equipment purchases.  This includes the monthly phone           | o │
  16. │   |bill,  and the cost of obtaining certain files which,  for          |   │
  17. │   |own BBS (e.g.,  anti-virus utilities,  etc.).                       |   │
  18. │ o |                                                                    | o │
  19. │   |There is no way that a local BBS,  such as The Parole Board         |   │
  20. │   |BBS's actually operate at a profit.  The best that can be           |   │
  21. │ o |hoped for is that the Owner/Sysop's expenses are shared with        | o │
  22. │   |the user,  making it possible for the Sysop to continue to          |   │
  23. │   |from his family!                                                    |   │

  25. │   |If you are a regular user of a good BBS,  and the Sysop an-         |   │
  26. │   |mean the difference between having the BBS,  and not having         |   │
  27. │ o |it.  In my view,  it is better to not ask for contributions         | o │
  28. │   |(everyone will let "the other guy" contribute),  and a fixed        |   │
  29. │   |                                                                    |   │
  30. │ o |Having said all of that,  I want to take this opportunity to        | o │
  31. │   |thank all of the Sponsors and Members of this BBS who have s        |   │
  32. │   |the BBS.  Without that support,  The Parole Board BBS  could        |   │
  33. │ o |have ceased to exist long ago.                                      | o │
